Guide Dogs come to ITB

Two guide dog puppies in training came to the college with their trainers. We got to take photos and film the dogs doing their everyday duties which the are currently being trained for. It takes 18 months to train a guide dog and the one that dont quite make it become assistant dogs for authtistic children

David was from a company called language which was a graphic design studio in dublin. David has worked for his company for 20 years and actually worked on the desiging of the itb logo.

Guest speaker, Ruth Mc Phartlin

We were given a lecture by a guest speaker Ruth Mc Phartlin who owns the company Fluid Rock. Her company is based in the digital hub of dublin. ruth told us how he started her career in the digital media industry. Fluid Rock build websites for companys. She also told us about some of the projects she worked on

Day Out on the 18/02/09

Today we went to a few differant places. First was the bodies exobtion in the ambassador which was terrible and boring. i was in an out in about 15 min which was not worth the €14. If your thinking of going to see it dont just pick up a biology book and you will see more or better yet watch that autopsy guy on tv.

Second was the Hugh Lane Gallery, this was ok because i like art, i found that i kept ending up in the same place no matter where i walked but i got over it all in all the the Hugh Lane Gallery is worth a look.

Lastly we went to a science exobition in trinity college in dublin this was the best part of the day. We were givin a tour and shown what all the the contraptions done which was very infomitive and fun cause you get to try alot of the stuff your self. Its a good laugh and its free so cheak it out.

User-Centric Design: Play.com is aimed at every online consumer who are looking to buy most forms of entertainment for examlpe CD’s, DVD’s, Games, books, electronics etc. The site dose not require any flash plug-ins or any other forms of media player. This site is for shopping and shopping only, which it is well laied out for. When you log on to the main page oyu can see all the main bargins usually in a banner across the top. The main page also shows all the new releases on the site under all thedifferant product catigories. When you want to buy an item you simpley click on the picture orthe buy link, from there it will open a new page that gives you detailed infomation about the product and you can also read customer reviews. To buy the item simply click buy and enter your creditcard, address etc and click confirm. Also if you are a frequent user of the site you can set up an account which saves you having to enter your details everytime you want to purchase an item.

Simplicity: Play.com has a very simple design.it mainly uses bright oranges and dark blues set against a white background. This makes the text and navigation bars easy to to see and read. Every poduct has a picture so its easy to see what you are buying and all the products have clear concise descriptions so you know all you need to know about the product. Play.com is very efficeant too use without sacraficing fuctionality. Everything on the site follows clear steps, when purchasing you just follow 3 simple steps and your done no messing about.

Typography: Play.com’s typography is very clear. All product descriptions are in regular size black font on a white background. All the drop down menues are black text on an light gray background in a large font which changes to white font on an orange backround when selected. The site uses only a couple of differant type faces but they dont clash with each other so the page looks crisp and clear. Non of the colours of the site clash either so it is visually appealing to look at.

White space: play.com makes great use of white space. There is plenty of white space between the text and the pictures. This makes things easy to see and this way the page is no to overcroweded. The white space on Play.com is cleverlied used to make the site easy to follow and read.

Layout: The layout of Play.com is very well done. Everything is layed out in a colume format, when you click on a heading you get a dropdown menu. This means that you can easliy see what links are for what products. All the products are layed out in a list format, in decending alphabetical order. This mean all you have to do find the product you want is jus scroll to the letter you want or click on the letter links. This makes very easy to keep track of what you are looking for and wha you have looked at.

This week we made men out of wicker tree branches in the freezing cold. Also we made a story board by taking photographs to make a story i done this with Adnan and Karl
